I’ve made it no secret on this blog that Salt Lake City is a hotspot for young professionals and new families, people looking to lay down some roots and find somewhere to settle before moving into the next phase of their lives. Between a slew of luxurious and spacious homes, the buzzing downtown activity of one of the country’s most vibrant cities and an entire landscape ripe for exploring, hiking and camping, there’s definitely no shortage of things to see, places to go and room to grow for families.

But SLC’s appeal isn’t age-specific. Part of what makes living in Salt Lake City so great is how versatile it can be for all sorts of people looking to call this place home. And that’s not just me talking either. A new list from CNN officially ranks SLC among the top 10 best places in the country for retirement.

Here’s why:

  • It won’t break the bank: With a 5 percent flat income tax and a generally low cost of living, SLC is one of the more affordable cities around.
  • Quality of life: Top-of-the-line health care, world-class skiing options and a couple dozen museums make life in SLC enjoyable.
  • Quick, effective transit: Instead of the over-complicated subways of New York City or the endless hours of road congestion in Los Angeles, Salt Lake offers swift transportation and minimal traffic whether you choose to go by car, bike or train.
  • Wide variety of housing options: From downtown Salt Lake City condos to the Victorian homes of The Avenues, you have plenty of choices for houses in Salt Lake City.

Plus, direct flights to Paris. Enough said.
