Need something to do this weekend? I know that if you’re new in town, trying to get your bearings and sift through all the different things there are to do here can be kind of overwhelming. And if you’ve been here for a while, chances are you’ve already done a lot here and are looking for something new in your life. Don’t fret, I’ve got your back.

One of the biggest things in Salt Lake City right now is the theater scene, all thanks to our much-acclaimed Ziegfeld Theater. The guys and girls there had a tremendous first year of shows and have kicked off their second year with a production of the often-asked for, now-granted Broadway musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The show first opened back on August 23 to much fanfare but the run extends all the way to September 28 – so there’s still plenty of time for you to check it out for yourself and see what all the buzz is about!

For those who don’t know, the basic gist of the play is a very loose reinterpretation of the biblical figure Joseph, who is given a multi-colored coat by his father and proceeds to sing and dance, using a number of styles from all over the world. Like I said, it’s a very loose interpretation. But it’s also incredibly fun and catchy, perfectly suited to people of all ages.

Tickets range from $12 to $15, and shows can be caught either at 7:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. matinees. Bring your family, bring a date or just go by yourself. Whatever you do, make sure you get to see the show before it leaves the stage at the end of the month.
