Best local ski resorts to check out this winter

There’s no doubt about it, winter is in full swing! Some may complain that snowstorms bring shoveling and traffic headaches. But for those of us living in Salt Lake City, it’s ski season! There are plenty of mountains in the area with tons of fresh powder and high-quality ski resorts. If you’re looking to get some shredding in this winter, pack up your skis or board, and try out some of these hotspots:

Brighton

This is a favorite for many Salt Lakers, thanks to its low prices and kids-ski-free policy. Skiing at Brighton has become a tradition for a lot of local families, who first learn how at the resort’s ski school, then continue coming back as teenagers and adults, before bringing their own kids here for lessons. It’s basically a rite of passage, and with a combination of beginner, intermediate and more advanced trails, there’s plenty here for skiers of all abilities.

Solitude

Here’s another top-notch resort that shares Big Cottonwood Canyon with Brighton. If you’re looking for something a little more isolated and away from the crowds, then the appropriately named Solitude is your best bet. Plenty of untracked snow, with runs that range from easy to you-better-be-good-at-this, and a small village that offers some nice lodging too. Give it a look.

Snowbird

Over in Little Cottonwood Canyon is Snowbird, consistently ranked as one of the best places to ski or board in the entire state. For those looking for a challenge, Snowbird is exactly what you want. Tons of advanced runs, with ratings that put this place’s difficulty above others – Snowbird’s greens are other resorts’ blues, their blues are other places’ blacks and so on. If you’re looking to test yourself or impress someone, then Snowbird is it.
