Last month, after Salt Lake City’s summer farmers market closed for the year, city, state and Downtown Alliance leaders quickly met to discuss a seasonal replacement. The end result: The Winter Farmers Market (I can see they didn’t spend too much time on the title). For fans of locally grown, organic produce, your prayers will soon be answered as the Winter Farmers Market is set to open this weekend!
Starting November 9, the Downtown Winter Farmers Market will gather every other Saturday at the Rio Grande Depot, من 10 a.m. إلى 2 مساءا, and will run until April 26. The establishment of a central winter farmers market is something of a heel-turn from last year’s “Pop Up Markets,” which appeared sporadically in different locations once a month. Downtown Alliance’s decision to shift from those separate spots to a more central location is welcome news for a lot of farmers market fans in town, who are hoping that this “stepping stone” – as The Salt Lake Tribune puts it – will one day lead to a full year-round market.
Although the once-every-two-weeks schedule may annoy some people looking to go shopping every weekend, it’s a huge help to local growers, who now have more time to expand their production and offer even more fresh produce straight from SLC farms to their customers. زائد, it coincides nicely with pay day.
The market will offer wares from 50 different participants, with a variety of fruit, vegetables, bread, eggs, honey, meat and more all ready to buy and eat.
