Winter has plenty to offer those living in Salt Lake City, like some of the best slopes in the country for skiing and snowboarding. But if you’re a film buff, you know that all eyes are on Utah this month for one major reason: the Sundance Film Festival.
Established by one of Utah’s favorite sons, Robert Redford, Sundance is an annual celebration held every January in Park City to showcase all the latest and greatest in independent filmmaking. From the established big names to the little guy just starting out, it’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity for filmmakers to mingle with their industry and viewers to meet their favorite actors and directors firsthand.
But as awesome as Sundance is, the festival typically brings with it one major drag: You have to wait. A lot. Typically, Sundance has viewers stand in line for two hours outside – in the cold! – just to get a number, and then come back later for more waiting just for the chance of maybe grabbing a seat. It’s a first-come, first-serve deal that everyone usually dreads.
Sundance is changing it up this year, alhoewel, and offering festival-goers a chance to get their tickets online instead. Gone are the days of standing out in the cold for hours on end. Now you just put your name on an electronic wait list and keep a lookout for tickets from your phone or tablet!
Park City is just a short 30 mile trip from SLC, where you’ll find plenty more to see and do in between movie screenings.
