Public transportation has always been an important feature of living in Salt Lake City, especially since SLC isn’t exactly the best for getting around on foot. Gelukkig, we live in a town that’s always striving to up its game on how to shuttle people back and forth, whether by bike, bus or trolley. Last month, we talked about one such undertaking in the Sugar House neighborhood, which had been approved to update their public transportation scene with new railways and bike lanes. Nou, just a few short weeks later, things are already getting underway.
According to Desert News, the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) has prepped Sugar House’s new streetcar for a grand unveiling and sneak preview this weekend. To mark the occasion, the UTA is offering passengers the chance to ride the new S-Line completely free of charge on Saturday, Desember 7, between 10 a.m. en 6 p.m. if they make a donation to the Utah Food Bank. Riders will also find a ton of activities for kids and adults alike, including food and entertainment, at the 300 East and Fairmount Stops.
But that’s not all! UTA is even offering a limited-time promo for S-Line passengers, discounting their fare to just $1 if they pay electronically – anything from UTA FAREPAY cards to regular credit cards. Ernstig, $1! If you live near the new rail, you should absolutely get on that.
After this grand opening, the S-Line will be open for regular service beginning Sunday, Desember 8.
