Last month, we talked about one of the more risqué traditions that Salt Lake folks like to indulge in every year: The Underwear Run! And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like: Tons of people show up downtown, dressed in nothing but the bare essentials, and go off on a half-naked jaunt around the city in what has to be a very humbling, shame-free exercise. It’s not the most normal thing you’ll see in your life, but so what, it’s all for a good cause!

What exactly that good cause is is for the runners to decide. As FOX News 13 reported, hundreds of people showed up last Sunday for the half-naked run, all advocating a ton of different free speech issues: Gay marriage, marijuana legalization and heightened awareness of autism. There’s no one set cause for this protest rally, and according to organizer Eric Steen, that’s the whole point of it.

You can go out in suits and picket signs and stuff like that and make a statement, but nobody really looks at those guys,” Steen told FOX. “But you go out in your underwear, everyone’s going to look at you to see what’s going on.

In a bit of awkward timing, the downtown run coincided with the Church of Latter Day Saintsgeneral conference, a semi-annual meeting that brings thousands of Mormons to SLC. Although many in the LDS conference weren’t pleased (translation: fairly pissed) with the run, Steen said the timing was not intentional and actually the result of several delays that pushed the event back from its intended September date. oh well, no harm, no foul, reg?

Anyway, if this sounds like your kind of thing or you just want to know more about the wonderfully crazy things that living in Salt Lake City affords, talk to someone from Muve Real Estate today!
