Robert Redford speaks at LGBT Allies Dinner

The Allies Dinner is an annual Utah event that brings residents, both straight and gay, together to continue supporting the cause of equal rights for the LGBT community. It’s a great tradition with a serious message but also a lot of fun times for participants – not only is it for a good cause, but it’s also a great way to get to know and support your fellow Utahns. This year’s dinner was particularly noteworthy for featuring an appearance from legendary actor and director, Robert Redford.

“I’m here for the same reason you are – equal rights for all,” said Redford, speaking to the sold-out crowd. “Like you, I believe there’s no place in our world for discrimination. None.”

It was the former Sundance Kid’s first time at the Equality Utah event, as he took to the podium to urge the state that he’s long made his personal and professional home to “catch up,” and speak out against and change discriminatory laws that could help set a precedent for the rest of the country.

Gays, lesbians and their friends and families made up the bulk of the 2,000-strong audience, but the attendance also included local politicians, community activists and yours truly – your friendly neighborhood real estate brokers! We were pumped to have been a table sponsor at such an inspiring and (at the risk of gushing) star-studded event for three years running now. After all, Muve Real Estate isn’t just about finding you homes for sale (though we are good at that) – we’re all about the quality of living in Salt Lake City, which includes how we treat one another.
