Weekend plans for those living in Salt Lake City

TGIF, right? It’s been a long week, especially if Halloween kind of threw your schedule for a loop (join the club). But the weekend is finally almost upon us, which starts the traditional mad scramble of weekend plan-making. While some like to spend their Saturdays and Sundays sleeping in for however long or lounging around in clothes they would not be seen in outside, a lot of people like to fill their schedules with things to do: Movies, parties, concerts and tons of other events where they get to unwind and do something different from the daily grind.

For people living in Salt Lake City, there’s no shortage of options to occupy your time with this weekend. The Salt Lake Tribune has rounded up a handful of things worth checking out:

  • 10th Annual Day of the Dead Celebration: Those looking for a good time with a splash of culture should check out this festival, which commemorates the post-Halloween Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos. Good food, music and games await, but it’s also an opportunity to learn something new too.
  • Utah Orchid Society Fall Show: From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days this weekend, you can scope out some of the finest-looking orchids grown by your own neighbors in their backyards or greenhouses. Flower enthusiasts can satisfy their curiosities by asking society members any questions they may have, while the rest of us average Joes can just stop by and take in the sights. Admission is only $3 for adults and $1 for kids.

And don’t forget, this Sunday is Daylight Savings! Set your clocks back an hour and revel in that extra 60 minutes of sleep – you’ll need it come Monday morning.
